Menopause is one of those life stages that no amount of reading or preparation can truly prepare you for. Whether you’re taking HRT or not, whether you’re lucky enough to be symptom-free or navigating hot flushes, brain fog, or sleep disruption, if, like me, you’ve noticed changes in your body, then it’s time to take action.
For me, the shift wasn’t just about hormones. It was about realising that my body was subtly, but noticeably, different. My energy levels, recovery time, and even the way I moved all started to change. One thing in particular plagued me for years, a sore hip that started to impact the quality of my life.
Then I found yoga.
Now, I won’t pretend that yoga was some magical “one hit wonder” that fixed everything overnight because nothing in life really works that way. But what it did give me was the ability to move in ways that eased my pain, strengthened the muscles around the joint, and gave me the confidence to keep my body active rather than shrinking my world to avoid discomfort. And now, I’m pretty much pain free and I understand what I need to do if it flares up.
That’s the real key: whatever you choose to do for your health in menopause, it has to be about building healthy habits that last a lifetime. When I teach yoga, it’s never about chasing the perfect pose or becoming super flexible. It’s about something far more important: enjoying our third age with strength, balance, and vitality. It’s about keeping those aches and pains at bay so we can keep doing the things we love or even just lugging bags back from the supermarket with ease!
Menopause is not the end of anything. It’s the beginning of a new chapter, one that can be filled with energy, ease, and joy if we give our bodies the care they deserve. For me, yoga is that care. And it could be for you too.
